For the first time, Christopher Plummer received an Oscar in the 84th Academy Awards. Plummer won the Oscar for Best Male Supporting Role category.

This 82-year-old man was the oldest actor ever won an Oscar. Previously his name also was nominated in 2009 through the film 'The Last Station'.

Plummer performances in the 'Beginners' got rid of its competitors, namely Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn), Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Nick Nolte (Warrior) and Max von Sydow (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close).

For Best Female Supporting Actress won by Octavia Spencer with the film 'The Help'. She got rid of Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs) and Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids).
